The book presents insight into bibliographical sources and other information and history related to the topic. Running as a little-known candidate for the Illinois Senatorship in 1858, Lincoln challenged incumbent and Democratic leader Stephen Douglas to a series of debates. The result was a memorable chain of lively arguments in front of cheering crowds. The Lincoln-Douglas debates were a series of seven debates between Lincoln, the Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate from Illinois, and incumbent Senator Stephen Douglas, the Democratic Party candidate. The debates previewed the issues that Lincoln would face in the aftermath of his victory in the 1860 presidential election. Although Illinois was free state, the main issue discussed in all seven debates was slavery in the United States. THIS BOOKLET IS IN FINE CONDITION This antique booklet is in excellent condition.
