Description: The Cover Proof to an old Marvel Horror Comic! This Auction Includes: DEAD OF NIGHT #2, Featuring A Monster Stalking An Old Man By Harry Anderson, Original Untrimmed Cover Proof (AKA: Full Wrap Proof) I Think The Green Scales And Pointed Claws Ensure The Evening Visitor Is Not An Invited Guest! This Was Drawn for MARVEL Comics In 1973 For Use As A Cover In A Famous Horror Title. The Was Used In The Production of The ORIGINAL FIRST PRINTING, In Late 1973, For The February, 1974, Comic. NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH MERE REPRINT MATERIAL, USED TO MAKE COMPILATIONS OR GRAPHIC NOVELS OR MASTERWORKS OR ESSENTIALS OR ARCHIVES OR TPB OR ANY OTHER RE-HASHING OF THIS LANDMARK MATERIAL. Extremely bright colors and superb gloss. Truly Incredible Eye-appeal: Very High-Quality Paper Was Used. Snow-white whites and colors so brilliant and lustrous you'll almost think they're still wet! Because it is too large to fit the entire piece upon the scanner, you can only see a portion of the back cover color advertisement for the awesome Evel Knievel toys, by Ideal Toy Corp, including their action-figure and stunt cycle and scramble van and other iconic toys of the era. Any admirer of the cool comics from back in the nostalgic Silver-age and Bronze-age of comics, the sixties and seventies, would happily add this showpiece to his or her comic art collection. This is a must-have piece of pop culture history for any fan of vintage semi Groot material or of original cover production art, or just the serious Marvel fan who likes having true rarities but cannot afford to shell out four-figure$ for the black & white line art! Many of you have dealt with us over the years via our ads in C.B.M. and/or C.B.G. (Comic Book Marketplace and Comics Buyer's Guide, etc.) We are secure packagers and prompt shippers so expect to be pleased. Back in the "good ole days", most publishers normally burned or discarded such production art once the comic went to print. Mr. Jack Adler, the long-term Vice President of Production for DC Comics during the period this item was produced, painfully recounted to me the tale of himself and fellow DC artist Jerry Serpi cutting up thousands of pages of original comic line art and production art. He said it broke his heart to destroy all that beautiful artwork; But back over a third-of-a-century ago, nobody foresaw the future value of such exclusive pieces of comic-book history! This type of item allowed the editors to make sure the alignment and all the color registration was just right, even in the advertisements, for all of the front and the back, and on the cover interiors, for this comic. There are no holes in the spine area, of course, and it has a broad white border around all edges, and does include the entire back cover, and all the ads filling the interior portions. This was the final step, and once the editorial and creative staff reviewed it and approved it for use, to make sure there were no glitches or misprints, the actual comic-book could hit the press. For additional information, check out the lengthy color article on the comics printing process in the September 2001 issue of Comic Book Marketplace (which is still available from us in another current auction) Additional cover art can now be found by checking the other Key Comics ebay items (User ID: keycomics). Please contact us with any questions. Buy aggressively, as such items are genuinely rare! These items are brilliant and glossy, (obviously very well preserved), and they are larger than comic size; since they were part of the editorial process they can include tack-holes, indentations from a paper clip, staple-holes, chips, pencil notations, tape, and/or edge wear, but this one somehow avoided the usual detractors. I hope that the mediocre scan will convey that this is a great looking showpiece, which would be especially impressive framed. Regrettably, our sad scanner makes the background colors appear wavy --when all colors are rich and uniform, and extremely bold throughout. As Usual: LOW ASKING PRICE AND NO RESERVE!
