Description: "Excavator" 2011 Oil on Aluminum Authenticated and Appraised for $2,000 a few years ago. The piece represents the woods around Dave's family cabin where he would spend his vacations. Dave Miko is an American Postwar & Contemporary artist who was born in 1974. Their work was featured in numerous exhibitions at key galleries and museums, including the David Zwirner, New York (519 W 19th Street) and the White Columns. Dave Miko has been featured in articles for the ArtDaily, the New York Magazine and the New York Times. The most recent article is Sweet Distemper: A group exhibition organized by Isaac Lyles on view at Derek Eller Gallery written for the ArtDaily Lives and works in Brooklyn, New York 2001 - MFA, Yale University School of Art, New Haven, CT 1999 - BFA, SUNY Purchase, Purchase, NY Miko’s enamel-on-aluminum paintings double as screens for Thayer’s poignant, lo-fi animations; it can be hard to tell where the painting ends and the projection begins, particularly since both artists employ a loose, low-fi style. The paintings recede as backdrops and the animations take center stage; they have the stuttering quality of early William Kentridge, and are poignant without adhering to a coherent narrative—a man hoists a dog onto a platform, a monk-like figure materializes periodically. Thayer obviously plays well with others, as seen recently at a transporting evening at the Tracy Williams gallery—a hybrid of puppet show, experimental screening, and performance by the No-Neck Blues Band. Through March 5. — The New Yorker
