Wonderfully captured in dramatic impasto and palette knife detail. Signed with initials to the lower left. On canvas on stretchers. Condition In fine condition.Collection Information Fresh and painterly, this new collection of works direct from the studio of contemporary artist Daniel Nichols includes airy climatic landscapes and city views, ranging from inner London to the Highlands of Scotland. Nichols' recent work takes more specific inspiration from the landscapes of Kyffin Williams.Biography Nichols began painting in watercolours from age fourteen, before later moving on to gouache and oils, describing his artistic journey as a ‘long, slow path’. After working in comic book art for a time, in recent years he has painted almost continually, honing his technical abilities. Since holidaying many times in the Lake District and Scotland growing up, these places developed a special significance for Nichols, along with the climate, with the artist being happiest when it rains. This is evident in his typically atmospheric but vibrant scenes, and the frequent use of reflections in wet ground. His favourite subjects are places he has an emotional connection with, and knows well, and his work often highlights little-known corners of both the urban and rural environment in the British Isles.Approaching painting in a loose manner, his aim is to capture atmosphere more than technical perfection, often using the mood of a scene to dictate his approach. Nichols has a number of collectors, and has completed commissions in the USA, Europe and the Far East. He has recently been nominated to take part in 'Landscape Artist of the Year 2022' with Sky Arts, and his work was selected for the spring 2023 edition of Channel 4 programme 'George Clark's Amazing Spaces'. Sulis Fine Art traces its origins back four generations. Benjamin Diamond opened a picture framing factory in Midtown Manhattan in the early 20th century. Originally known as Royal Art, the business worked closely with artists and museum institutions, developing a reputation for creating fine frames. Royal Art passed through the family and eventually evolved into Sulis, now run by Benjamin's grandson Bill, and his son Dan. Based in the South West of England, we source art from across the British Isles and ship worldwide. We handpick all our stock and we've grown into a ten-strong team of art historians, photographers, restorers, studio technicians and despatchers. We relocated to our Corsham studio in early 2020, leaving behind our small garden workshops in Bradford-on-Avon that had been our base for several successful years. Now located on the edge of the Cotswolds, our current home allows the team to work alongside our large catalogue of artworks, allowing us to provide you with fast global shipping and top-notch customer service. We are always striving to connect people with the art they love. Each week we add new artworks to our extensive catalogue, across all styles, subjects, colours and periods. At the heart of Sulis, we rescue and restore lost and forgotten works, giving you the opportunity to find unique pieces and discover art in a new and different way. View All Artworks View More -->
