Description: Rare original antique engraving print from an 1860s illustrated journal. This antique print depicts two pictures of the child victims of spree killer Jean-Baptiste Troppmann, and a picture of his capture. On either side of the pictures is an article on the crimes. It continues on the back of the page. Jean-Baptiste Troppmann (1849 –1870) was a French spree killer who between August 24 and September 19, 1869, murdered eight members of the Kinck family, including six children aged between 2 and 16 years old, in order to gain access to their money. He was caught at the port of Le Havre at the end of September 1869 while attempting to flee the country. Convicted after a three-day trial on December 30, 1869, Troppmann was executed publicly by guillotine outside the gates of La Roquette Prisons on January 19, 1870. The print is very large (folio size), measuring approximately 11 x 15 inches (28 x 38 cm). The picture fills most of it, measuring about 9 x 13 inches, with a caption below it.
