Description: Very large heavy statement piece by Craig Zweifel made in his Ketchum Idaho glass studio in 1997. Zweifel pieces this large are extremely hard to find. Most of his works are very small to medium size. Of the 30 Zweifel pieces that I have in my collection, this one is the BY FAR the LARGST Zweifel vase among them all. I've been collecting Zweifel for 27 years and this is the largest Zweifel vase that I've ever seen. Zweifel pieces this large are exceedingly rare because of the increased difficulty in getting everything perfect. Despite the large size of this vase it has a very graceful and elegant stretched elliptical shape. The black glass leaves on the metallic gold vines are small and elegant, not oversized as seen on some of his other works. The unique Zwiefel iridescence is strong, with vivid pastel green, purple, pink, violet and blue hues that change in intensity and hues as the lighting conditions change. Zweifels trademark pastel iridescent colors are not seen on any other glassblowers works. Only Craig was able to achieve this dynamic pastel iridescence by fuming the glass with pure silver at 2100F. I've never seen this effect duplicated on any other glass artists work. This piece looks best in subdued diffused light so the pastel colors really pop in dimly lit areas. Zweifel has always been one of my favorite Art Nouveau style glass artists, right up there with Louis Comfort Tiffany and Charles Lotton during his peak talent years of 1990's through the 2000's. By the way Zweifel used borosilicate glass which is much stronger and durable than regular glass. Borosilicate glass is also known as Pyrex brand glass, which has been used extensively in all the world's corporate & institutional laboratories, as lab glassware, due to its strength & durability. So despite his pieces looking delicate, they are not. This is the heaviest & Largest Zweifel vase I've ever owned. Our cat used to climb into our Christmas tree & bat the balls off the limbs. The Zweifel Christmas balls BOUNCED off the hardwood floor still in perfect condition. Borosilicate glass in an incredible material. It's just silica glass with the element Boron added. Many glassblower artists use it now. I always offer a full refund if not satisfied for any reason. The piece will be generously padded & double boxed to ensure that it arrives in the same perfect condition in which it was shipped. Also, I never alter or enhance my photos in any way, so are guaranteed to get exactly what you see in my photos. Feel free to ask questions. I have many more photos if you need to see more.
