Description: Cornelius Krieghoff ‘The Trapper’ Oil Painting 19th C. Canadian Canada This is an oil on board painting of 'The Trapper' by Cornelius Krieghoff. Cornelius David Krieghoff (June 19, 1815 – March 5, 1872) was a Dutch-born Canadian-American painter of the 19th century. He is best known for his paintings of Canadian genre scenes involving landscapes and outdoor life, which were as sought after in his own time as they are today. He painted many winter scenes, some in several variants, including this scene of a Canadian Trapper on snowshoes. This example makes use of vibrant colour in the sky, and is attractively framed. The painted image measures 10.5" x 7.5", and framed measures 15.5" x 12.5". Signed lower left. This painting sold for US$6000 on Invaluable.com on January 1, 2020. It has been professionally cleaned and remounted in its frame, which was also restored. The restorer took a photo of the reverse of the wood panel, and affixed a photocopy of it in a plastic slip to the back of the piece, visible in photos 4 and 5. The photocopy shows a wood panel with inscriptions, a sticker from the previous auction house, and an older piece of paper with the artist and title inscribed. Please note I have not had this painting authenticated by an expert. Overall excellent condition, and ready for display. Ships from Toronto, Canada. Available for local pickup.
