Founded in 1852, Babcock Galleries specialized in the secondary market of works by Franz Kline, Willem de Kooning, John Singleton Copley, and Andy Warhol, as well as contemporary and modern American painting. This portrait is very well done. Rendered in Watercolor, inks and pencil it depicts a man dressed almost incognito staring directly back at the viewer. Possibly a self portrait but we are unsure. Clearly signed _ _ _ Davis 1978 but we can't make out what comes before it. Possibly a W possibly Will but we are uncertain. Please see our close-up, detailed pictures for consideration. Perhaps a dealer or someone in the New York City artworld will recognize the artist that created this wonderful and detailed Portrait. Clearly done by the hand of a very very skilled and schooled artist. Condition: Light toning but otherwise good. Matted but unframed as acquired.
