Name variants: Constantin Andreevitch Terechkovitch, Kostia Terechkovitch, Andreievich Constantin Tereschkovitch, Constantin Tereshkovitch Konstantin Terechkovitch, usually known as Kostia Terechkovitch, was born near Moscow. In 1920 he went to Paris to study art at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. Welcomed by compatriots such as Mikhail Larionov and Soutine, Terechkovitch settled in Montparnasse, where his close friends included Moise Kisling and Andre Lanskoy. Kostia Terechkovitch was eventually to become the only Montparnasse artist of the between-the-wars School of Paris to maintain his own racing stable, an indication of the keen interest in sport and high living. Kostia Terechkovitch was a key member of the loose alliance of colourists known as La Réalité Poètique; the others included Roland Oudot, Maurice Brianchon, André Planson, Jules Cavaillès, and Roger Limouse. His name is variously transliterated - sometimes as Constantin, sometimes as Tereschkovitch. Constantine Terechkovitch encompasses a wide range of subjects from figures to landscapes to still-lifes. He founded "Poetic Reality," a group of painters that included Roland Oudot, Brianchon, and Legueult. Natural inspiration formed the basis of their work. In 1951, his work received the grand prize at the Menton Biennial - an international print festival in France. The year 1951 also marks the date of Terechkovitch's election as a Knight of the Legion of Honor. After his death, he was honored with two retrospectives: one in 1980 entitled Tribute to Terechkovitch, at the Etinne Gallery of Sassi, Paris, and the other in 1986 at the Menton Municipal Museum.
