Description: C G Conn New Invention Circus Bore CornetMade in Elkhart, Indiana 1914Silver PlatedExpertly EngravedCollector or PlayerLow Pitch A=440Rare Offered from my personal collection. This is a C G Conn New Invention Circus Bore cornet serial number 136731 which places the manufacture to 1914 in Elkhart, Indiana during the heyday of band instrument manufacture in the USA. It's silver plated and beautifully engraved, most likely by one of the Stenberg brothers. The condition is good considering the age. Wear to the silver plating in all the hand grip areas with at least 90% of the plating intact. There are a couple of dings in the second slide and the far end of the crook. But these are small dings and can be removed if desired. Various scratches and scuffs and evidence of re-soldering on a brace. One button is a replacement. Otherwise it's all original and in very good shape. This sweet cornet has been cleaned, bumpers replaced and new springs installed. With wear on the valves the compression is not 100% but it's very playable using heavy oil or space filler. The slides are stamped LP for Low Pitch and it plays at A=440. With a large bore .484" you can get a full resonant tone. It also has a clean fast attack which makes it an all around great instrument. You just can't find beautiful instruments like this any more.Included is a Holton cornet mouthpiece stamped 74 which has plier marks but the rim and cup are excellent. It has a funnel shaped cup matching perfectly to the conical bore of the cornet. According to Conn in 1913: "The claim made for the New [Invention] Circus Bore Cornet is that it has a better and more correct scale throughout its entire compass, that it plays easier and has a bigger and more powerful voice-like quality of tone. That it is better balanced, handles easier and that its tone responds more quickly and more readily. The bell of this Cornet hang downward to prevent the free use of the performer's embouchure, and the performer can do more on the Circus Bore Cornet and last longer when doing it than with any other Cornet." If you're a serious cornet player or collector don't miss out. These instruments are very hard to find. I'm including a case that's not original but it's usable, a silver polishing cloth, a cleaning cloth, valve oil and mouthpiece brush. A nice little package of extras to go with your vintage/antique cornet. Shipping anywhere. Cost calculated by location and service. Thanks for looking!
