Description: US Civil War Confederate Cavalry Sword with Scabbard. The only mark is on the edge of the guard "XXVIIII". Probably a Louis Froelich, Kenansville. The grip and pommel are tight, the guard will move a little if you force it. The knuckleguard has a very slight bend. The grip is down to the wood, there are some nicks/chips and crack lines. The blade is straight, has a few casting flaws, looks lightly sharpened on the lower third, some nicks on the lower half, and has small age spots with light pitting throughout. The scabbard is solid with several dents/dings, brass ring mounts and throat (no roman numerals on the top), the drag is missing (there are a couple holes there). The washer is missing. Length of the blade is 35" (1 1/8" wide and 1/4" thick), the sword is 40 9/16", and in the scabbard it is 41 5/8". Check out my other War Items! Including More Swords and Many Bayonets!
