Description: As you may know, the five most important psychedelic poster artists in San Francisco--Wes Wilson, Rick Griffin, Victor Moscoso, Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley--were approached by the Moore Gallery to organize a traditional gallery exhibition, "Joint Show," which opened on July 17, 1967. Also included in the show were three lesser-known Bay Area artists--Gerhard Nicholson, Richard William Leonard, and Ralph Chesse. You're doubtless familiar with the posters each of the Big Five created for the show, but maybe you've never seen the invitation package, as remaining copies are exceedingly scarce. As you can see in the photos, the container for the various invitation pieces is a giant Zig-Zag rolling papers box. This measures 10" X 5 7/8" closed and 10" X 12 1/2" opened flat. The box is 5/8" deep (but is slightly "relaxed" from age). The box has some slight staining, handling and paper toning from age, but is not torn or otherwise damaged. The next piece is a long, narrow, colorful invite designed by Wes Wilson. This piece was possibly intended to form a "band" around the postcards and bios. It measures 15 7/8" X 4 11/16" unfolded and 6 3/8" X 4 11/16" folded. The nine mustard "bios" are as follows: a Joint Show - Moore Gallery featuring a group photo of the Big Five and backed with printing indicating it could be used as a postcard; a folded Wes Wilson bio featuring photo and artwork; a folded Rick Griffin bio featuring photo and artwork; a folded Victor Moscoso bio featuring photo and artwork; a folded Stanley Mouse bio featuring photo and artwork; a folded Alton Kelley bio featuring photo and artwork; a Gerhard Nicholson bio featuring photo; a Richard William Leonard bio featuring photo; a Ralph Chesse bio featuring photo. The bios measure 9 1/2" X 5 1/2" and the unfolded bios measure 9 1/2" by 11 1/8". The 12 Fillmore and Avalon Ballroom postcards vary in size and are as follows: BG16, BG18, BG36, BG57, FD45, FD46, FD 48, FD49, FD52, FD61, FD66, FD69. Over the past decades, I have seen less than five "complete invitation packages" offered. They have each included only five or six postcards, but they varied in selection. A noted San Francisco poster expert explained that when the invitations were originally sent, each included five or six postcards selected randomly. Therefore I carefully noted the cards included in each "complete invitation package" I subsequently saw and painstakingly collected and included every one in this collection. Therefore you're getting more than anyone got in 1967. I encourage you to search dealers' sites and try to find a better Joint Show Invitation package than this, or a better price. You'll notice each component in this group (if offered at all) is astronomically priced. In my humble opinion, this is the Holy Grail of San Francisco poster collecting.
