Description: New or like-new Amiga 390979-01 Kickstart 2.04 chip. Fifteen or twenty years ago we picked up dozens of these from a major corporation that used to refurbish Commodore and Amiga computers. They came to us in factory looking chip tubes. The chips in many of the tubes had identical date production codes and the chip legs appeared to be very shiny and unbent which is typical for new chips. So, we assume these are new or at least in new-like condition. This particular chip also has a little dab of what appears to be clear fingernail polish on the front upper right corner of the chip-- possibly as an identifier put there by the corporation we purchased these from. We picked up around ten thousand other Commodore and Amiga chips from the same source and have sold thousands of them over the last 12 or 15 years with great success and very few problems. We ship these chips in special static-resistant chip boxes with black crisp anti-static foam to protect them. To fully utilize the features of this chip you may also need the Workbench 2 system disks which we do not provide. Also, with an aftermarket rom switch device (which we also do not provide) you might be able to maintain compatibility with some of the older Amiga software by being able to switch between different Kickstart versions. Or, if you have multiple Amiga computers you may want to permanently configure one to have the newer Kickstart and leave one with the older Kickstart for software compatibility sake. I'm sure these chips are compatible with most (if not all) Amiga 500 computers and likely with many (if not most) Amiga 2000 computers. This particular chip has pin #1 and pin #31 professionally pre-jumpered (see photos) as is required by some of the Amiga computers that are compatible with this chip. Make sure to determine if your Amiga computer will need this jumper wire installed. If not, you should be able to simply cut the little green wire before installing. Be aware that the pin numbers on these chips are numbered in a counter-clockwise manner beginning with the number 1 pin in the upper-left corner. I don't recall if these chips are compatible with the Amiga 600 or not-- possibly not. Most (if not all) Amiga 1000 computers require the Kickstart to be booted from a floppy disk so I doubt there is any easy way to utilize one of these Kickstart 2.04 chips on an Amiga 1000 computer. This chip is not recommended and probably not compatible with the Amiga 1200, 3000, 4000 or other AGA-type Amiga computers. You may want to research the issue further online before buying this chip unless you are already familiar with all of the compatibility issues and installation details. These chips are in nice overall condition but may not be in mint condition due to the fact that they have been stored in chip tubes which may have scratched them slightly or caused other minor blemishes. We take note of the production date codes of all chips shipped and oftentimes put little warranty stickers on the bottom of the chips which we ship in order to make sure that any returns are chips which we actually sold. Any returned chips which do not match the production date codes or which have missing or damaged warranty stickers will not be refunded. If you don't want little warranty stickers on the bottom of these please contact us before ordering to make special arrangements. Note: Our shipping price is a couple of dollars higher than our actual shipping cost on these normally because of our cost on the special anti-static boxes which we ship them in. We have been selling Commodore hardware, parts and accessories for over 40 years (since 1983) and have a great reputation.
