Description: Images one through four show flower details of my stock plant growing in California and a display by the original clone under natural conditions in western Panamá. The last pair of photos show the specimen-sized plant offered for sale, near leaf perfect, recently established with stems to 20" in pure NZ sphagnum at near flowering size in a 3.5" rose pot. Columnea chiricana is an exceptionally showy epiphytic gesneriad with a localized distribution in upland cloud forests of extreme SE Costa Rica and western Panamá. A well flowered specimen is among the most impressive Neotropical flowering plants. I first released this species in US cultivation in late 2022, and am again making flowering sized specimens available to collectors. Despite cool climate origins, it is temperature tolerant but cannot survive prolonged stretched of hot nights outdoors in the southeast. Stems may exceed 8' under optimal conditions but can, naturally, be trimmed to more manageable lengths and still flower normally. All plants offered are greenhouse grown on benches in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. Shipping: Plants will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail with tracking number for physical addresses within three working days of receipt of payment, weather permitting. 72 hour heat packs are available for an additional nominal charge. Wherever possible, plants will be shipped in plastic pots. If bare-rooting is required for shipment to your state, please advise when auction is completed.
