Description: If there is a quintessential "eye candy" jewelry piece, this Ugo Correani choker would be a clear winner. Our Correani necklace is truly a feast for the eyes, with its bright candy colored slivers, and an air of playfulness — something I sometimes feel after eating my favorite treat! This Correani is a rare find, as the designer only had a short, and by media accounts, largely overlooked career between the 1970s until his death in 1992. An online article on the designer dubbed him as "one of fashion jewelry's best-kept secrets". Born in Rome, Correani created jewelry from his atelier in Milan for the biggest fashion houses: Chanel, Versace, Valentino and Lacroix. Correani designed the pearls in Karl Lagerfeld's first collection for Chanel in 1983, accounts say. His collaboration with Versace was considered the most "fruitful", with the duo producing costumes and jewelry for Milan's La Scala theater plays like "Evita" and "Salomé". Correani pieces are known for being intricate, theatrical, big, and dramatic. He used "unconventional materials and techniques". He did not leave heirs when he died so according to online accounts, his "archive disappeared and his legacy and story were largely lost".Our necklace displays some of the qualities the designer is known for. It is chunky, made up of resin or plastic slivers in bright colors of yellow, orange, purple, green, magenta pink and black. The rounded edged rectangular discs are about 1 1/2" x 1", arranged in alternating colors along the center portion of the choker, with little black discs in between. The discs are threaded through five black cords, knotted on both sides of the disc segment and with gilt caps at the end. The necklace has a fishhook clasp, hidden under a domed boxy housing with a rhinestone accent. The necklace is about 18" long and 1 1/2" wide. It is marked Ugo Correani at the base of the box clasp housing. In overall very good to excellent condition. The colorful slivers are still bright, with the colors mostly intact. The cord shows no fraying. The gilt clasp shows some scuffs, but it is still a nice gold color, and the crystal accent is glittery.
