Description: Colgate Palmolive Peet Square Aluminum 10¢ Shaving Cream Token For consideration is this square aluminum token made for the Colgate Palmolive Peet Company in New York City, USA. The front of the token reads “Good for 10¢ on purchase price of Colgate’s or Palmolive Shave Cream” and the back side of the token reads “Notice to Druggist This Token Redeemable for 10¢ only if taken in part payment for Articles named on reverse side. Any other application constitutes a fraud Colgate Palmolive Peet Co.”. My personal estimation is this was made circa the 1930s. This aluminum token measures slightly over 1 inch on all 4 sides. The patina is natural. This token is in very good vintage condition. Buyer will receive FREE shipping. Thank you for looking! NOTE: The soap manufacturing companies Palmolive and Peet merged in 1926. In 1928, the Palmolive Peet Company merged with Colgate to form the Colgate Palmolive Peet Company. In 1953, they dropped the name Peet, to become the Colgate Palmolive Company. Trade and tax tokens were popular in the use of trade in the 1920s through the depression (1921-1941). In fact, during the depression, many of these tokens were traded as currency in areas where currency was in short supply. Many of these tokens stopped being used and circulated in 1942, as aluminum was part of the scrap metal drives that were used to gather the materials to build war equipment.
