Many considered it to be an imitator of the White Castle chain which had been founded a few years earlier. However, White Tower was popular and expanded to many cities, eventually having 230 locations.. During the Great Depression, White Tower sold their hamburgers for five cents each.and suggested that people "buy a bagful". White Tower's restaurants were all white and the staff dressed like nurses, which the chain used to evoke the notion of hygienic conditions.
