THE BATTLE OF WHITE OAK SWAMP, VIRGINIA (FRAYSER'S FARM/ GLENDALE) ~ THE SEVEN DAYS BATTLES ~ FROM THE WILLIAM 'BILL' A. REGER COLLECTION - A relic condition brass lock (Reger called it a Dispatch Case Latch) with the original type-writer typed tag. The lock measures about 1 1/2" in diameter. A very nice relic condition brass lock (Reger called it a Dispatch Case Latch) Including the original type-writer typed tag, that was recovered in April 1971 from the Battlefield of White Oak Swamp - (Frayser's Farm - Glendale, Virginia) by William 'Bill' A. Reger, one of the great early relic hunters from Berks County, Pennsylvania. This artifact was in his large collection of carefully identified relics that were recovered between 1950 and 1977. Reger passed away in Reading, Pennsylvania in 2011. The fighting at White Oak Swamp was really connected to the larger battle known as Glendale or Frayser's Farm. The Battle of Glendale took place on June 30th, 1862 - the sixth day of the famous Seven Days Battles. Although it is not as well known as Malvern Hill or Gaines' Mill, the battle was intense, involving over 80,000 troops and almost 7500 combined casualties. We will include a letter containing the specific provenance information. We included as much documentation with the relics as we possess. This includes copies of tags if there are identification tags or maps, as well as a signed letter of provenance with the specific recovery information. All of the collections that we are offering for sale are guaranteed to be authentic and are either older recoveries, found before the 1960s when it was still legal to metal detect battlefields, or were recovered on private property with permission. Land on Battlefields that is now Federally owned, or owned by the Trust, was acquired after the relics were recovered. We will not buy or sell any items that were recovered illegally, nor will we sell any items that we suspect were recovered illegally. Thank you for viewing!
