Description: Please examine photos. They are THIS item and are part of the description. I do not use stock photos or photos of other people’s items. This is one of several Panama Canal Zone postcards I will be listing today. This card depicts the machine shops at the town of "Empire" (also referred to as Emperado on maps of the period) which grew up to support construction of the Canal around 1910. The "cut" at this location was sometimes referred to as the Empire Cut or by its more popular name, the Culebra Cut. References to Empire and the Empire Cut pretty much pre-date completion of the Canal. The construction town went away upon completion. The card was posted from Corozal, south of "Empire" on September 17, 1919 Using and Panama/Canal Zone overprint stamp, Scott # 31. The stamp was roughly torn from a sheet, ignoring the perforations, missing portions of the stamp but including portions of adjacent stamps. The card was mailed to Newark NJ. Significant flaws not depicted in the photos are described here-with, minor flaws and normal wear are not. Unless the item is described as new, assume there will be minor flaws or wear commensurate with a used item of given age.
