Description: The Wentworth Institute baseball team took to the field for the first time back in 1914. I am estimating this uniform to be circa 1920, and possibly the oldest surviving example from the Wentworth baseball program. Included here are the jersey, pants and stirrups. The garments show excellent game usage, to include sweat stains in the collar and infield dirt on the pants. Thankfully the jersey and pants do not have any rips, holes or tears, though the pants do have a couple of vintage, expert repairs. The wool stirrups do have some damage, with the stirrup on the right (last photo) having the most of the two. I'm wondering if the player who wore this uniform was an infielder who was "spiked" by baserunners, as one of the pants repairs is on the bottom left leg. This jersey is quite large for the era, measuring a good 24 inches across from pit to pit (Size 48), and approx. 30 inches in length from the top of the shoulder to the bottom of the tail. The original "WENTWORTH" team name is sewn across the front in felt, with a handful of tiny holes pockmarked on a few letters. The tag in the neckline is from Mormac Sporting Good of Boston. The felt maintains a gold color, though it was likely darker 100 years ago. The pants are approx. 16 inches across the waistline (Size 32), with a total length of approx. 31 inches. This set is a true museum piece and would be a welcome addition to any advanced baseball collection.
