Its antecedents, traditions and uniforms". In two parts, Part One covers the early period of Trained Bands and Militia, Fencibles and Volunteers up to 1859; Part Two covers the Volunteer Movement through the Territorial Force and the the Territorial Army up to 1967. The Battalion sent a contingent to fight in the Boer. The 1/5th Battalion fought on the Western Front and in Italy during the First World War. In the Second World War the 5th Bn fought in North Africa and then served in the Middle East. Volunteers from the Battalion joined the 10th Parachute Battalion.
