HISTORY/MARKS: This retailer/importer, Mitchell, Woodbury & Co., was added as reference for various marks found on German and Silesian crockery and porcelain china. In 1899, the letterhead mentioned J. Mitchell, C.H. Woodbury and C.E. Austin as proprietors. While Mitchell, Woodbury & Co. itself was located at 80, 82 & 84 Pearl Street in Boston, it had the phone #3671. Charles Henry Woodbury lived nearby in Allston. By 1906, the company was 76 to 92 Pearl Street with offices in New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Philadelphia. By 1913, the firm had a massive store front at 556-560 Atlantic Avenue in Boston. In the October 21, 1920 edition of Crockery and Glass Journal Volume 92 No. 17, mentions: “The Mitchell, Woodbury Co., having discontinued closing all day on Saturdays. The company has a specially attractive line of gift ware on display at their showrooms, consisting of crystal, crockery, bronze and lacquer, and imported dinner ware, for the holiday trade.” The company operated from 1892-1948. The style for these items is that of those produced in the 1910's. . Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description.
