Description: Chinese Porcelain Ginger Jar Qing Dynasty Tongzhi Nian Zhi Famille Rose Straits Description and Item Information Up for sale is this beautiful, antique Chinese porcelain ginger jar or lidded vase. Please excuse the glare in the photos. This piece has multicolored famille rose glazes, and may be considered to have the Straits (Nonya / Nyonya) porcelain color palette. The exterior has floral decoration, with four round medallions that have double happiness symbols. This motif is repeated on the lid. The interior is glazed white. The maximum diameter is approximately 7 3/8 inches, and the height is about 8 3/8 inches. Unpacked, it weighs 3 pounds 12.2 ounces. This would be a fine addition to a collection of antique Asian decorative arts. Identification This Chinese jar is believed to be antique, of the Qing Dynasty. It has a red, six character Tongzhi Nian Zhi mark beneath. The exact age is not known, but it is circa late 19th century to early 20th century, either Tongzhi or possibly Guangxu period. Condition The jar displays well overall because it is so decorative and colorful, but it is not in perfect condition. There are many small, scattered losses/flakes to the enamel glazes on the exterior of the jar; these look like small, white areas (the glare spots from my photography lights also look like white spots). The unglazed areas on the foot rim, upper rim, and inside the lid have soiling and wear marks. There are scattered, minor scratches. Inside the jar, there is minor soiling from use. There is patchy, slightly darkened crazing. There are no chips or cracks to the porcelain. As made, the lid and jar rim are not perfectly round. There is some dullness to the glaze on the lid.
