Description: Painting: This museum reproduction ink silk painting is about abundant Chinese village life ages ago in the City of Catay, China. Perhaps this was during the Song, Ming, or early Quing Dynasty. This time of plentiful surroundings is described in great detail in the calligraphy in the scroll. The title in black ink is described at the top of the scroll. There are several chop marks and red seals on the scroll that may contain the artist signature, period of reign, and perhaps the reigning emperor seal. Underneath the title begins the plentiful landscape of the village that is on long brown silk and attached to the scroll with a damask border. An amazing three-line calligraphy poem is on top of the village. It probably gives thanks to the village's prosperity, wealth, and good fortune. Several pine trees in full bloom with pine needles, and village dwellings can be seen. Villagers are walking down a large path carrying goods. In the center of the village are several dwellings along a winding path where the villagers and guests are meeting and going about their day. There are cows and horses and other small animals and birds within the village. There is a large waterfront with boats and fishermen. There are children playing on either side of this large canal of water. Village dwellings are on both sides of the canal. Near the center of the village is a large, curved bridge, allowing villagers and guests the opportunity to cross over the canal and back to the other side. A large boat filled with people is beginning to cross under the bridge. Many boats of all sizes are going to and from this abundant village on the canal. On the west side of the canal, the village expands to the full size of the scroll with several large dwellings. This area of the village is bustling with the trading of goods, places to eat, worship, play, and where perhaps villagers of great importance could be seen and met. Covered wagons, horses, and cows are amongst the villagers and guests. Many pine trees with fully bloomed pine needles are scattered throughout this area of the village. A large watch tower on stilts oversees the village and allows for passage between the tower and the other side of this area in the village. Several people are in and around these large dwellings, enjoying their good life and good fortune. At the bottom of the scroll is another large calligraphy poem in black ink with golden specks of paint throughout the poem. A golden silver and dark green damask border of silk with repeating patterns of flowers add to the beauty of this Chinese museum print. Many shades of black and gray colors beautifully detail the village. At the bottom and top of the scroll is a wooden dowel attached to the damask border. The ink is commensurate with other old dynasty reproduction paintings. The approximate dimensions of the scroll with the damask border: Height: 130 in or 330.20 cm Width: 16 in or 40.64 cm Wooden Box: This scroll has an amazing black and gold wooden box. The topside of the box has five large chop marks and a red seal. The frontside of the box has a metal lock and a partial scene of the village in golden paint. The backside of the box has a large calligraphy poem in golden paint. Two metal hinges keep the top and bottom of the box together and help allow to open and close the box the scroll came with. The approximate dimensions of the wooden box: Height: 18 in or 45.72 cm Width: 3.5 in or 8.89 cm Depth: 3.5 in or 8.89 cm Payment: Please plan on paying for your item within 48 hours of purchase.
