Music was composed by Wei-Tsu Fan specifically for this work. The colorful enamels are hand applied within the brass cloisons and then polished. Each box is hand-numbered in gold on the base - in Chinese! There is an applied label with maker, date, model No. 73362 and unknown Chinese writing. The Dragon Dance is always a favorite each year at San Francisco's Chinese New Year festival and parade. The mythical beast is symbolic of good luck, strength, health and the male element Yang. The dragon is also the fifth of twelve animals in the traditional Chinese zodiac calendar. 2024 is the Current Year of the Dragon, The next Year of the Dragon will start in February 2026.
