Description: Chinese Antique Stoneware Famille Rose Export Ginger Jar (ash glaze with British low fire over glaze decorations)Approximate size is 7" tall X 7" wide at widest point (outside edge of handles) base (foot) diameter is about 4" Brits contracted for stoneware ginger jars, and on receiving the high fire delicate ash glazed stoneware jars, then applied a low fire bright and gaudy glaze to make them more saleable. The ash glaze is very apparent on the inner rim, inside the jar and lid, and upon the foot of the ginger jar. Stoneware gave way to porcelain only very early in the Brit reglazing of export ware, and this jar appears to be a good example of the joint Chinese-British Export pottery.
