Description: For sale is a wonderful cast fine pewter sculpture by the well regarded western artist Donald Jack Polland (1932 - 2003) for Chilmark Studios In 1973 Polland joined forces with Chilmark for a new era in art of the American West began, as his work was produced in fine pewter, as well as bronze. He had truly made his mark, and today has one of the largest collector followings in the art world. Chilmark went out of business for good in 2000. Open editions are no longer being cast. Condition: Very Good Measurements Height - 3 7/8" Width (Base) - 2 1/2" Born in Los Angeles, Donald Polland became a sculptor of miniature cowboys and horses at a time when large size works of those themes were much more popular. His interest in horses was aroused when, at age 15, he became a stable boy on a thoroughbred horse farm. He was a jockey for two years and held other jobs including that of electrician, farmer, commercial artist and teacher. He also studied foundry work and in 1966, began his four to six inch miniature bronzes, loving the ability to hold his work in one hand.
