Description: You are bidding on a large original antique print from an 1880s illustrated journal. The quality of the printing from that era was exceptional. It depicts views of the London 1883 chess tournament. At top is a match between Steinitz Vs. Zukertort. Joseph Henry Blackburne, Szymon Winawer, George Henry Mackenzie, James Mortimer, Samuel Rosenthal, James Mason are shown as well. The London 1883 chess tournament was a strong chess tournament among most of the leading players of the day. It was won convincingly by Johannes Zukertort (22 points out of 26) ahead of Wilhelm Steinitz (with 19 points). Remarkably, Zukertort was already assured of victory with three rounds to go, having scored an astonishing 22/23. He then lost his last three games against relatively weak players, probably due to exhaustion. The tournament established Zukertort as rivalling Steinitz to claim to be the best player in the world. The print is very large (folio size), measuring approximately 11 x 16 inches (28 x 40.5 cm). The picture fills most of the page, with a caption below. The page is in excellent condition for its age. There is text/photos on the back of the print. See scan for an accurate view of the condition. This print will come with a Certificate of Authenticity. Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
