Description: CFH/GDM Haviland Limoges Creamer & Sugar w/Lid Pink Floral w/Gold 1891-1900 HTF Exquisite Decorative CFH/GDM Charles Field Haviland (Gerard, Dufraisseix & Morel), CREAMER & COVERED SUGAR, Pink Carnations w/Green & Brown Leaves on White w/Gold on Handles, from Limoges, France, circa 1891-1900 DESCRIPTION: This features sprays of pink carnations with green and brown leaves sprinkled over the high white porcelain. The embossed handles on both are highlighted in gold. The inside of the scalloped rimmed pieces is smooth & clean. See the photos. CONDITION: The condition of this decorative creamer and sugar w/lid is excellent. We can find no defects and only minor damage. The inside of the rim of the sugar does have 2 tiny, insignificant nicks. You can see this in the 7th photo. There are no chips, other nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. The gold has slight age appropriate wear to the gold on the handles with the creamer being almost perfect. Please refer to the photos to see how classically beautiful this is. DIMENSIONS: The creamer is basically a 4" square with a height of 3 3/4". The measurement from handle to spout is 5 5/8". The sugar is also basically square of 5 5/8"" and a height of 5 1/2" to the top of the lid. The measurement handle to handle is 7". HISTORY/MARKS: Charles Field Haviland was the nephew of David Haviland. Charles Field in 1858 married Loiuse Alluaud, the granddaughter of the Alluaud porcelain family. In 1876 management of the firm was entrusted to Charles Field Haviland and the pottery’s name was changed prior to his retirement in 1881. When he retired, the pottery was sold and has passed through several parterships until present day. The partnership of Gerard, Dufaisseix & Morel took over. The whiteware mark was changed to have the GDM under the CFH. Morel ceased to be a partner in 1890. This set was manufactured by GDM (Gerard, Dufaisseix & Morel) at their Rue De Nexon pottery in Limoges, France. This is one of the successors to the CFH pottery. It has the CFH/GDM backstamp with France written under it which came into effect with the partnership between Emile Gerard - Director, Jean-Baptiste Dufraisseix - Decorator, and Morel in 1891. This mark continued in use until 1900. This is cited in Mary Frank Gaston’s Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition as mark #2 for Gerard, Dufraisseix & Morel which was used in the time period 1891-1900. The green mark #2 is on the creamer as is the red decorator's mark #3. The sugar has the green mark #1 which was used from 1882-1890. This also has the red France which means it was probably exported in 1891+. It also has the red decorator's mark (Gaston mark #3) that was used from 1882-1900. This dates the set to the 1891-1900 time period, probably early in that time period. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description.
