He learned about architecture there, then continued his studies in the studio of Félix Duban at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.Precursor of Viollet-le-Duc, César Daly worked as a diocesan architect, from 1843 to 1877, to the restoration of the Sainte-Cécile cathedral in Albi. He was appointed member of the Commission on Religious Arts and Buildings in 1848.Phalansterian committed to the socio-economic theses of Charles Fourier, In 1848 he founded a short-lived Society of Decorative and Industrial Artists and, the same year, but without success, ran for the National Constituent Assembly. During his travels, he visited the utopian colony ofIcaria founded by Etienne Cabet.Daly was awarded the Legion of Honor on August 13, 1861 and received the Royal Gold Medal in 1892.Much more than a field practitioner, César Daly was a man of influence, active in the organs associations and professional publishing in the world of architecture. He was the secretary of the Central Society of Architects.
