Cats are noted for their sensuality, quickness, and grace. In Egypt, cats are associated with many goddesses: Bastet, Hecate, and Isis. This affiliation with numerous goddesses may be the reason that it was a death penalty offence to kill a cat. The cat owed its nine lives to Ennead the Ninefold Goddess. The pupils of a cat were perceived to mimic the phases of the moon, and the fecundity of cats gave it a strong link to the goddess. Cats were the favored familiar of witches. For this reason, cats were often tortured and burned along with the witches they were thought to consort with. During the witch hunts so many cats were tortured and burned that their demise may have allowed for the increase of the population of rats to the extent that the plague erupted all over Europe. Cats symbolize illusion, delusion, or unproven theories. False beliefs, assumptions, and daydreams are associated with the appearance of cats in readings or dreams. A cat will stand by and watch as you lie to yourself to avoid pain or lie to others to make yourself more attractive. Cats reflect your self-delusions and your illusions that you have about others. In places where a great quantity of ancient wisdom was secreted a big cat (lion, tiger, puma, Leopard, cheetah, or panther) was placed as a guardian. The Sphinx may be one such guardian and that leads to speculation that a great library of secret knowledge is hidden beneath her. Effigies of large cats of ancient origin are located all over the planet and each of these locations is the possible location of a repository of occult knowledge and wisdom. Many libraries have stone loins guarding their entrances’, a holdover of this ancient practice. A black cat in a dream represents a self-destructive pattern in your life or the life of a loved one. A white indicates a strong sense of self-worth. To be frightened by a domestic cat in a dream suggests that your fears are founded on false assumptions. To be frightened by a wild cat in a dream suggests that your fears are founded on a real threat.
