Description: This bottle is an estate item from my mother's antique bottle collection; she enjoyed her special finds from bottle digs and was an active antique hunter and trader with a special focus on vintage glass items. I have several other antique bottles listed; for buyers making multiple purchases, I will package the items together and refund the difference between postage paid and the actual postage cost The is a rare torpedo or 10-pin mineral water bottle. It is generally clear with some cloudiness and signs of age reflecting its vintage status. It has CARL H. SCHULTZ C-P M-S PAT. MAY 1868 NEW YORK embossed on its side and is approximately 8 1/2" tall with ~2" diameter base. The numbers 1 and 3 are embossed on the bottom with a manufacturer symbol on center. Torpedo soda bottles were made of thick heavy glass (some bottles weigh as much as a pound) to withstand the carbonation pressures of soda and mineral water. Although true torpedo bottles could not stand up, some rounded bottom soda bottles had a small flattened area in the middle of the base that allowed them to stand wobbly upright. Such bottles are called a “club”, “tenpin”, “semi-round”, or “egg-shaped.”B87
