At the Fifth Annual Convention, held in Richmond, Va., in 1872 (see page 18 of Report of that meeting), it was "Resolved, That a committee be appointed with power to publish an illustrated book, defining the proper terms or names of each and every part used in the construction of railway cars, and a description of the use of the same." At the Fourteenth Annual Convention, held in Detroit in 1880 (see pages 11 to 20 of Report of that meeting), "The committee to whom was assigned the duty of preparing a Dictionary of Terms used in the Construction of Cars submitted a copy of the book and reported that they had finished their work and were discharged."
