Description: Canada Goose "factory" Decoy by Ben Schmidt (1884-1968). dated 1961 Ben Schmidt, premier modern day carver from Detroit area, tried to mass produce his popular goose decoy and (with a partner who made the mold from a hand carved decoy) made a dozen prototypes in resin which he painted. there was an article about this venture some years ago (decoy mag.?) , but I could not find it. apparently the venture was abandoned as being too expensive to produce a profit. It is thought that only 6 copies survived; making this a very rare decoy for the factory collector. 21" tail to bill
