Description: This pair is a good used condition 1970 California license plates. The letter and number combination is most appropriate for 1970 or 1971 automobile registration. Rear plate conditionThe rear plate has 1970 and 1971 original DMV issued stickers. The lower right corner has a dog-ear bend and some damage along the bottom edge near the lower right mounting hole.. Front plate condition The front plate has evidence of surface rust on the face. The paint is original but has some fading compared to the rear plate. There is surface rust along the left edge, bottom edge, and lower mounting holes. See recommendations below. California YOM programThey can be used to register a passenger vehicle model years 1970 thru 1980 in the state of California under the YOM program. They must have the vehicle's proper model year sticker. 1972 thru 1980 stickers are available on other ebay sites. I have not heard of anyone having a problem with the DMV and reproduction stickers. I have some stickers that are original DMV issued available, please inquire for your year and price. I verified they are eligibility for YOM on 8/30/22 and guarantee them as clear for 90 days from date of sale or your money back. You can see the DMV paperwork by going to dmv.ca.gov and search for YOM, look for the PDF file for the form. The form lists the requirements for plates to qualify. Note that although the program is called "Year of Manufacture" (YOM), the required license sticker must match the MODEL year of the vehicle to be registered. The DMV will issue the proper month sticker when registering. They will also include license toppers to display the current month and year registration stickers as shown in the number 4 picture, if you do not want to display the current stickers on these original plates. RecommendationsWith the existence of rust on the front plate, I recommend that you stop the rust and preserve the plate with a clear coat of paint. I have had good luck with that using the paint shown in the last picture. Available on Amazon.com, it is a two-part paint that has a hardener which must be mixed in before spraying. This causes an epoxy-hard paint layer which stops the rust and restores brightness and shine. The hardener is contained in the can, follow instruction to mix it. The paint will harden in the can in about 2 days, so line up all the items you want to paint with it before mixing.
