Description: Project Reverie emerged out of a desire to tell more complicated stories about victims and survivors of gender-based and sexual violence. Often, the stories we hear about victims and survivors alike center on their abuse, trauma, and suffering. But there is, of course, more to survivors than that which has led them to be called survivors. We can tell these new stories in multiple ways. In this case, student artist Felicity Wong, an award-winning artist, interviewed twelve survivors and created portraits that capture their hopes, dreams, and personalities. The stories she heard come from a diverse range of people. Half of the interviewees are people of color, many are LGBTQ+ identified, and interviewees ranged in age from 18 to 52. Through the portraits that emerged out of interviewees’ stories, the project honors the strength of survivors and seeks to contribute to building a kinder and more empathetic world. The proceeds from the calendar sales will go to the Atria Collective, a nonprofit organization in Vermont dedicated to combating gender-based and sexual violence.
