Description: A juvenile Spy Thriller, where a young schoolboy, brother to an English secret agent, saves the day and his elder brother, when he accidentally stumbles upon a nest of communist spies determined to outwit crucial treaty negotiations with a small European country. On Sale is an undated circa 1935-45 edition of * On Secret Service *, by Ralph Arnold, with a b&w frontispiece plus 2 other full-page illustrations by W. Bryce Hamilton, published by Blackie & Son Ltd., London & Glasgow, [First published 1935] this one is undated, reprints were made in 1942 and 1945 but this appears to be 1930's (books made during WWII were usually poorer quality due to supply problems), size approximately 7-1/2 inches x 5-1/4 inches, with 223 pages plus the plates. The beige cloth-covered hardcover with brown titles to the front and spine, is slightly bumped on the spine-ends, very sound and not split along the spine edges, slightly darkened to the spine, titles clearly legible, slight lean to the spine, lightly marked, otherwise reasonably clean and tidy (see photo's 1 & 3). Inside is complete, small splits to the fold ends of the rear endpaper else endpapers mostly not split, hinges sound with boards firmly attached, binding slightly stretched in a few places with all pages well attached, no writing or graffiti and no previous owner's name, pages not torn and corners not turned, age-toning to the free-endpapers and to the closed page edges else generally not tanned, some scattered foxing throughout mostly to the margins, not heavily read, otherwise mostly clean and tidy.
