Description: c 1921 Melba China (made by Mayer & Sherratt) hand painted fluted floral tea trio in pattern #2073, produced at the Clifton works in Longton, Staffordshire. This brilliant trio bears exquisitely detailed, hand painted floral swags in rich Imari tones of rust, green and cobalt blue on a lustrous, bright white background with gold highlights. Dimensions:Cup 5.5 cm tall and 10.5 cm across from edge of cup to outer edge of the handle.Saucer 14.3 cm diameter.Side plate 18.5 cm diameter. While the saucer and side plate are in perfect, original antique condition with no chips, cracks, repairs or restoration that I can identify, the cup does have a tiny chip on the rim.The colours remain clear and bright and the gilding is in great condition. There are numerous fine glaze and kiln spots, and some micro crazing , very typical of china manufactured at this time and the manual processes involved. The underside of the side plate is unmarked except for hand written painter's marks.The underside of the saucer bears the Melba China England crown and lion back stamp.The underside of the cup bears the Melba China England crown and lion back stamp; hand written pattern number; and hand written painter's marks.
