Description: An exquisite lidded sauce tureen with matching under plate from Henry Alcock and Co, produced in the long running family owned Hill Pottery, Cobridge & Burslem, Staffordshire. Beautifully hand painted in a typical Imari influenced palette of cobalt blue, rust, green and yellow with gilded highlights on a crisp white bone china base. Dimensions: Tureen 6.5 cm tall, 13 cm deep and 21.5 cm across from outer edge to outer edge of the handles.Lid 5 cm tall, 10.5 cm deep and 17.5 cm wide.Under plate 2 cm tall, 15.5 cm deep and 23.5 cm across. Overall the 3 pieces are in very good antique condition with no chips, cracks, repairs or restoration that I can identify. However, typical of the period and the highly manual processes at the time, there is micro crazing in places, paint spots and glaze faults, the base of the under plate and both underside and top of the lid have kiln scorch marks (refer images 8, 9 and 10), there is a glaze pot in the base of the tureen and some wear to the gilding on the edges. The base of the tureen and under plate bear the green Henry Alcock & Co England Eros Royal Premier semi porcelain back stamp, and impressed marks which are unclear. The under side of the tureen and lid bear a hand written pattern number. Ref 1005
