Description: Bullet Park by John Cheever HCDJ 1st Edition/1st Printing 1969 Classic Very Good. Beautiful tight copy with light soiling/yellowing of page edges, light wear to dust jacket (which is protected by a Brodart mylar sleeve), and a tiny bookstore sticker on FFEP under the mylar jacket (see photos). I have not tried to remove the sticker as I don't want to damage the jacket and I think it adds to the provenance (The Savile Bookstore in Georgetown, Washington, DC was one of the most-famous and respected used bookstores in the country in the 1960s-1970s, so the sticker itself is a tiny piece of history. You can google the Savile and read about it, if you're interested.). Cheever is my favorite short story writer of all time. I place him ahead of Hemingway, Carver, even Chekhov. he was the master of the form beyond all others in my opinion. I started reading him as a teenager with literary pretensions and continued to this day. He wrote some pretty great novels, too, winning the National Book Award for The Wapshot Chronicle, a book I like a lot but find inferior to Bullet Park. For me, Bullet Park is his finest novel. A must read! About the book: Eliot Nailles loves his wife and son to distraction; Paul Hammer is a bastard named after a common household tool. Neighbours in Bullet Park, the two become fatefully linked by the mysterious binding power of their names in Cheever's sharp and funny hymn to the dubious normality of suburban America.
