Description: Buffet Crampon Paris Wood clarinet Bb Professional Model Pre R13 late circa 1948 excellent only needs pads & cleaningOverall cosmetic condition is remarkable, good to excellent for a vintage instrument. This clarinet should be restored to beautiful playing condition. Body: wood is great condition as shown needs minor cleaning beautiful grain shown in pics. logos in good condition, no cracks or repairs. Just one small chip in the tip of the end body pieces as shown in the photos. · Keys: all keys move freely, excellent condition, Plating on nickel keys are dull and need cleaning but not a lot of wear.· Tenons: excellent condition except one small chip shown in the photo that should not affect anything. Both joints are stamped with the same serial number 30230, which indicates the year of manufacture to be ABOUT 1948. This model was the top-of-the-line professional clarinet offered by Buffet Crampon before the introduction of the famous R13 in 1955.The main reason why the vintage pro-level Buffet clarinets are coveted and sought after by the players is the quality of the grenadilla wood these instruments were made of: the wood was allowed to air dry for 20 years or more to ensure that the clarinet won’t crack and was of the finest grade, very hard, dense and naturally dark. These days, the wood is used for the current R-13 is less dense and stained black to hide imperfections. Only the top-of-the-line models, such as Prestige, Tosca and Divine currently offer similar quality of wood.
