Description: Buddha Belly Straight Mutes are inspired by the classic "fiber" cone shaped mutes from the 1920's - 1950's. I've designed this mute to have a larger diameter throughout most of the body, which increases the overall resonance. The "cone" of the mute is made to fit close to the bell, which not only provides a secure fit, but also serves to better direct the standing wave toward the resonator. This mute will fit horns with large bell throats, (Martin Committees, Selmers, Bach 72) but will also fit snugly in bells with smaller throats, like a Bach 43. Each mute I make is personally play tested by me before it leaves my shop. This particular color variation is Kona (top) and Pecan (bottom). Typically, these mutes are made to order, but this one is ready to go! There are no metal, and absolutely NO PLASTIC parts in any of the mutes I make. Check out our Facebook page for videos I've posted to hear these mutes in action, and of course, feel free to contact me with any questions. About Buddha Belly Mute Co.For many years, I had the same collection of trumpet mutes, and they got the job done, and I really didn't give them much thought other than what the manufacturer of the mute stated on the packaging. After a short break from playing, I decided to get back to it. Something must have changed during that time, as I was no longer happy with the way any of them sounded.I tried a LOT of new mutes, and NONE of them seemed to give me the sound that I was now hearing in my head. Frustrated, I started researching, and wound up picking up a few vintage mutes. WOW! They sounded great, but were in pretty mediocre condition, so I decided to try my hand at restoring them. The first couple took me a while, and turned out pretty decent. I was hooked! I began picking up old mutes wherever I could find them, just to see what they sounded like. I was fascinated by their differences, and started really thinking about why they sounded the way they did. I continued restoring mutes in my spare time, and even thought about turning it into a sort of side business. Only problem was that I would wind up keeping them instead of selling them. I still have quite a few, but for a while, it was becoming an obsession, but I still wasn't completely satisfied. I decided to try making my own mutes.Over the past several months, I've made dozens of prototypes. Some were good. Some were terrible. These mutes don't even remotely resemble the original plans I made for them, but what you see here is the end result.I had a pretty simple checklist when I started all of this. They should sound great, look cool, and play in tune. They also needed to fit securely in the bell and be durable enough to last many years.I'm very happy with the models that I've already released, and more designs are in the works to expand the lineup. I'm very excited to finally be up and running, but even more excited by the idea that players will someday be actually using these mutes out in the real world.I am honored that you would consider purchasing Buddha Belly mutes for your own use, and welcome your feedback.Thank you! -Bob Miller
