Description: From an extensive private collection... is this adorable, with full cloth label, original two-in-one, "topsy-turvy" ("TOPSY & EVA") black and white, cloth doll, circa 1901. This is an extremely fine example of this charming double-doll. They are 12 1/2" tall, all cloth, July 9th, 1901 (by Bruckner, N.J.) and shown in the 9th Blue Book, p. 108. They have perfectly printed and molded features with printed blond hair on the white child and real, black hair with original red bows on the black child. They wear all their originally trimmed, red cotton printed clothing, matching sewn-on printed bonnet & red bandanna, (respectively) as well as their original trimmed, long white apron (few light stains) which can be flipped to cover the opposite doll. Both have sweet expressions and movable arms with mitt-type hands and separate thumbs. Whatever their origin, this exceptional doll still retains all of her charm. (loc 51) They are in very good (near mint) condition with no rips, no fading or repairs. It looks as if they were never played with and always kept in a collection. They have no fading, no tears or repairs and no odors and are from a smoke free home. We currently have several of these fascinating dolls available, each all original and slightly different either in headdress or clothing. They make a terrific study when viewed together.
