Description: BROWN SUEDE MANDOLIN SHAPED VINTAGE JEANNE BERNARD CREATION EVENING PURSE MANUFACTURED BY PARISHere's a rare wonderful little evening clutch in the shape of a bowed back mandolin, handmade in France and patented by Jeanne Bernard. It's a lovely chocolate brown with brass wire mesh strings, brass dot fingerboard markers, a brass bridge, and a tasselled rolled headstock. There's a snap closure in the backside that opens to a reveal a compartment for evening necessities, such as lipstick storage, a comb in a fitted sleeve (original to the bag), and a solid brass powder container that also looks to be original to the bag. It has what looks to be a JEANNE BERNARD sticker in the interior as a well as a removeable mesh face powder separator. Inside cap has a mirror and "Made in France" label. Tailstock and rolled headstock have very faint wear to the fine suede covering. Braded hand strap has torn where it joins to the neck as shown. The strap is long enough to rejoin, perhaps with thread. A rare purse worth having repaired. These figural bags are very delicate and best suited for display, rather than for carrying. The Metropolitan Museum of Art New York has an nearly identical bag in it's collection.
