Here is a older, beautiful lightly used Brown & Sharpe No. (621) 599-621-122 Surface Gauge. The base size is 3-1/2" x 2-1/2". This one has the 12" spindle upright post. It has 2 scribes, a 6" and a 12" long one. There is currently a 5/16" snug on the spindle to hold the 2 scribers. There is also a 5/16" x 1/4" snug to hold the 3 extra-assorted shop made shape indicator holders it comes with. These 3 shapes (2 are steel, 1 is aluminum) have a machined down on 1 end size of approximately .215" for other indicators you may end up using with this setup. Here is some info on this tool from Brown & Sharpe Shop Tool Manual STM-6. page 85: "Universal Surface Gage with hardened base. Rod adjusts quickly and locks at any angle above or below the base.
