Description: We are offering two different publications of the Eagle Almanac - 1904 & 1910. Published by The Brooklyn Daily Eagle [newspaper], New York. "A Book of Information, General of the World and Special of New York City". Office of Publication: Eagle Building, Brooklyn - New York City. The almanacs have interesting ads of the day, many with illustrations. These almanacs provided a wealth of information, all in one publication, that was easily accessed and easily looked up by the average citizen. The 1904 Almanac (698 pages) was from the Library of the United States War Department Collection (it has the War Department bookplate on the front endpaper). **NOTE** - It has a large fold-out map of Brooklyn Kings County, on very delicate paper that had some tears along the folds which we have repaired with acid-free archival mending tape. Also, our picture shows the section of the map that had been torn at two folds where it would have been too difficult for us to reattach it and so we have left it separate (see image). Also, printed on the pages of the almanac are maps of the different sections of Manhattan, the Bronx, and Queens, and also of Long Island, the Philippine Islands, Alaska, Cuba and Hawaii. The 1910 Almanac (690 pages) has a removable pocket map of the Borough of Brooklyn (in the inside-front cover pocket). Included in the almanacs are: Patriotic Associations; Secret Associations; Charitable Institutions - including Reformatories for "Unruly and Delinquent Boys"; Political Organizations; Firemen Associations; Veterans Associations; Religious Associations; Temperance Organizations & many more. There are Trade and Civic Associations; Business Associations; Financial Institutions, Educational Societies, and Kindergarten Associations. Also, clubs: Social Clubs, Art Clubs, Cycling, Sporting, Shooting Clubs, Firemen's Clubs and more. And ethnic associations: German, French, Italian, Scandinavian and Scottish, and Hebrew Societies. The almanac lists the Statues and Monuments in New York City, the Ferries, Steamship Lines, Railroads & Subway Systems. There is also a section on Post Office Scandals (sounds interesting!) The almanac gives names and locations for: every church in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens and Richmond (the name was changed to Staten Island in 1975); public schools in the five boroughs; and religious schools, for example a "Chinese Sunday School", and "Church Sewing and Industrial Schools". There are also many pages devoted to the U.S. Federal Government (which includes the National Debt for the previous year): The Executive Branch with all its departments explained; Judicial Branch; and the Legislative Branch with the names of Senators from each state; and Representatives from each district in each state. Also, the budget of the United States, the U.S. Treasury assets and liabilities, and the U.S. Imports & Exports. The almanac provides information on the New York City Municipal Government: for each of the five boroughs, naming all the departments, and details the NYC Budget. It also gives similar information regarding the New York State Government. The population, capitals and types of government of the world's countries are also given. Besides all of the above, the almanac has the information commonly found in almanacs: calendars showing each day of each month, with the position of the moon on each day; astronomical calculations, etc. **NOTE** - we have tried to give an idea of what the almanacs contain, but there is much more information than we can possibly relay. **CONDITION** - pages are Excellent; covers & spines have soiling and wear (see images) Also, please note the condition we have already given above of the fold-out map in the 1904 almanac (see images)
