Description: SMITHSONITE var. CADMIAN SMITHSONITE: Weinan, Wenshan, Yunnan Prov., China. Dimensions: 7.2 x 5.4 x 2.9cm, small cabinet. This excellent small cabinet Cadmian Smithsonite has a saturated, pure yellow color caused by traces of cadmium in the crystal structure, very similar to the well-known Smithsonites from Tsumeb, Italy, and Mexico. The piece is composed of several, intergrown, small profile, translucent botryoids that have an almost velvety looking surface. Its morphology along with its canary yellow color and slight translucency makes this a beautiful specimen. These attractive yellow Smithsonites from Weinan have an interesting story in that they were mined between 2003-2005, and were stashed for over a decade then released. There has been no production from the occurrence since. This is a fantastic piece with absolutely no bruising to the botryoidal surface at all and the only contacting is on the bottom that looks like it may have been sheared off in the pocket at some point during formation and then recrystallized with Smithsonite as it is very smooth. Buyer pays USPS Priority Mail shipping and any appropriate sales tax. Thank you for reviewing this listing and please see my other items!
