This watch represents a very special vintage Breitling 809 Cosmonaute 24hr featuring the beaded bezel and panda dial. This configuration was only available for 1 year in 1962 in extremely low numbers. This was also the year the cosmonaute went into space with NASA. That makes it really fun and interesting to wear. However, this particular example is being sold as is. It is either a custom watch or a watch for parts for a variety of reasons stated below. We would like share as much information with a prospective buyer so they can determine if it’s the watch for them or not. This watch presents beautifully as the rare 1962 809 Cosmonaute, but it either left the factory as a 1962 and had parts replaced over the years or was assembled later from vintage parts to present as a 1962. Unfortunately we can not be sure of which as the caseback in unmarked. If the caseback was marked we could then identify if it was indeed a 1962. Other identified issues include relumed hands, newer style Brietling crown, unmarked caseback/taller bezel. The good. The watch presents really wonderfully. The movement is recently serviced and is completely correct. All functions work. The bridge is properly hallmarked Breitling. The movement is the correct Venus movement. The original dial is in very nice condition. The case presents well with some scratches, scuffs and dings consistent with wear and use. It has not been overly polished as so many have. The watch is presented on a really nice aftermarket heavy mesh bracelet. Please see photos for additional description. Overall this watch looks great! The beaded bezel with two colored dial is spectacular. The gilt text of the dial is stunning! Fully correct this watch is valued at between $8500-$12000 We are valuing this piece at half.
