The eagle's beak-shaped handle pommel, in addition to helping to keep the knife in the soldier's hand, allows it to be used for hammering. The handle was designed to resist drying out and is highly resistant to impacts or abrasion. The sheaths characterize the IA2 and AMZ knives as field work tools. The sheaths are moisture-resistant, robust, lightweight and have essential features for preserving the field knife: a strong internal spring reduces noise when moving and its structure allows water to drain through the lace hole. The laces are the same as those used in parachutes.
