Description: GGA G WHAT A GREAT SERIES THE COMPLETE CAR MODELLER 1BYGERALD A WINGROVE1993 HARDBACK RARE IN GREAT CONDITION If you're interested in building from scratch or detailing models built from kits, you could not do better than having read and re-read this book a few times, or better yet, having a copy of your own. This book is a step by step walk-through of building a 1/15 scale model of a classic 1930s automobile. The materials used are primarily metal. But you could just as easily use many of the techniques for working in plastics or other materials. That's the best thing about this book: you don't have to be working in the materials Mr. Wingrove uses, nor do you have to be modelling any specific genre. The enthusiasm, the philosophy, the techniques, many of the tools, will carry over into any area of miniature making. Tho' the book is several decades old now, craftsmanship doesn't age. This is both a fascinating look at time before the "Can't-Do" generation inherited the world and a perfect primer for anyone who feels the need to buck that trend and actually make something with their own hands. While Volume 1 is a much more general introduction into Mr. Wingrove's craft, this is probably the useful for as an actual guide to the processes involved. My biggest disappointment with it is that it stops where Mr. Wingrove stops, that is with the actual construction complete. The finishing (the paintwork) I suspect is Mrs. Wingrove's specialty and isn't addressed at all, which is a shame, as it is equally beautiful, and I'd love to know how it's done Looks at modelling, going back to the basics for making a successful automobile model, with many processes applicable to models of other forms of transport. The book is designed to provide readers with encouragement and know-how for both the model-maker taking his first steps beyond the boxed kit, and the experienced craftsman wishing to refine his art. Chapters cover first steps, including tools and materials needed, as well as soldering techniques, how to photograph real-size cars, make plans, tyres and wheels, classics, bodywork and the engine. The final chapter takes readers through all the processes in a logical order to produce a particular car, the example chosen being a 1933 "J" Duesenberg. ******** CONDITION 23 OUT OF 25 HARD TO FAULT IN ANY WAY FOR YEAR POSTED IN A PROTECTIVE CARD ENVELOPE Check out my other items!
